Ngaa Tira Hauaa ki Waikato

We are proud to introduce Ngaa Tira Hauaa ki Waikato – Waikato Māori Community Action Group, a groundbreaking initiative led by Foundation for Equity and Research New Zealand (FERNZ).

This kaupapa is about empowering our whānau with lived experience of disability and dismantling the systemic barriers that have long impacted Māori communities.

Kicking off in Ngaati Hauaa, this initiative will first establish community action groups in: Matamata/Waharoa - Raungaiti Marae Morrinsville - Rukumoana & Kai-a-te-mata Marae Tauwhare/Pukemoremore - Te Iti o Hauaa & Waimakariri Marae.

For generations, many in our communities have experienced disability without recognition or support, continuing to uplift their whānau without assistance. Ngaa Tira Hauaa ki Ngaati Hauaa is the first step in changing that narrative, ensuring whānau have the resources, advocacy, and support they deserve.

This is more than just a project – it’s a movement for equity, inclusion, and self-determination. We start in Ngaati Hauaa, but together, we will expand across Waikato and beyond!

Spread the word, whānau! Share this kaupapa with your networks and help us build a stronger, more inclusive future.!
