Formally established in early 2024, the FERNZ Porirua Community Action Group (CAG) is dedicated to identifying and addressing equity-based issues within the Porirua community. Our goal is to use our collective voice to drive meaningful change and create a more inclusive city.

Monthly Meetings

We meet monthly at Pataka, a welcoming and relaxed environment where members come together to discuss community issues, plan actions, and work on solutions. Since our formation, we’ve made significant progress and are actively working on several important initiatives.

Key Milestones in 2024

  • June 2024
The Mayor of Porirua attended one of our meetings, providing a valuable opportunity for direct engagement with local government and fostering a productive dialogue about community needs.
  • July 2024
Members of the Porirua CAG presented at a Porirua City Council meeting, advocating for the adoption of the Hidden Disabilities initiative. Thanks to their efforts, this initiative is now implemented at Pataka, Te Rauparaha Arena, the library, and council offices.
  • August 2024
Two members of the group met with a council representative to discuss improving mobility parking to accommodate a broader range of vehicles, ensuring greater accessibility for all.
  • September & October 2024
Members participated in a photoshoot organized by the Porirua City Council to raise awareness about mobility parking. The campaign, featuring these photos, will educate the public on social media about the importance of only using mobility parking spaces with a valid permit.

The FERNZ Porirua CAG remains focused on fostering equity and accessibility across the community. We’re proud of our accomplishments and look forward to continuing to advocate for positive change in Porirua.
