Foundation for Equity and Research New Zealand (FERNZ)
FERNZ Porirua Community Action Group was formally established in early 2024 and is actively identifying equity-based issues within the community.
Our group meets monthly at Pataka, which offers a relaxed setting for members to discuss local equity-based issues, plan actions, and work towards solutions.
The group has already checked off some of their listed actions and are currently focused on several more which will allow them to use their collective voice for change.
June 2024 the Mayor of Porirua attended the groups meeting, presenting a valuable opportunity for the group to engage directly with local government.
July 2024 members of the Porirua CAG spoke at a Porirua City Council meeting.
September and October 2024, our members participated in a photoshoot with the
Porirua City Council to raise awareness about mobility parking; the photos will be used on social media to educate people not to use mobility parks unless they have a valid permit.
Our meetings are more than just work sessions.
They are opportunities to foster connections and build a sense of community.
There is always time for laughter and afternoon tea, which has led to a strong, positive and cohesive group.
Next meeting:
Saturday 19th October 1:00pm - 3:00pm
